Green-tailed Towhee

A Green-tailed Towhee has been visiting the Petersheim's feeders near the town of Center in Juniata County, Pennsylvania. This photo clearly shows the ruffous crown, white throat, gray breast and lighter belly of this bird. All of the photos include on this web page were taken at about 96X with a 3X digital camera held up to a 32X objective of a spotting scope.

A shot of the back and tail of the Green-tailed Towhee. This shot shows the overall olive color of the back with a brighter green edging to the tail and wing that is characteristic of the species. Also, note the undertail coverts which are a yellowish green.
