The Religious Order of Clan Derak'tul

Accolayte          The members of the Religious Order of the Derak'tul are all female. The Order is comprised of one High Priestess, twelve Priestesses, six Junior Priestesses, twenty-four Accolaytes, eighteen Mentors ((Teachers)), and thirty-six Apprentices, and one Head of Ceremonies. Not all are cut out for a life in the Temple, and in service to the Goddess Isla, but of those few who are, they often remain in their position for life. The members of the Order are often found to be "serious" in how they act and their words, and their take on life.

They tend to be deep personalities, and ones who don't take things for granted. They also tend to be extremely faithful, and will risk life and limb to help those in need. They spend a lot of their time within the Temple itself, though a few of them do travel outside, and to other Clans, running errands and the like. This kind of duty tends to fall to the Accolaytes, as a rule, and usually there are at least several that also possess healing abilities inside the Order. The duties of those within the order range considerably, depending upon the position they hold, and often are quite extensive. None of the Order hold to a single duty. Also deemed as being rather highly placed in the social structure of the Clan, members of the Temple are also given a high amount of respect. To the point where they may travel within the Clans unmolested once their occupation is known. All religious members of all Clans have an additonal tattoo to the Clan one, usually somewhere on the face. The Order of the Derak'tul hold an ivy tatoo that goes down the right cheek, starting at just below the eye and ending just above the lips.

The High Priestess and the lower Priestesses pretty much oversee the Temple and it's inhabitants. These women usually live on-sight, within the Temple walls. They are the highest ranking within the Temple, and usually are not seen in the main of Clan society very often. The Junior Priestesses are third highest ranking after the Priestesses and the High Priestess, also living on-sight and their duties include assisting the Priestesses, as well as delegating assignments, seeing to the supplying of the Temple, and various other things within the temple walls.

The Accolaytes tend to do the legwork of the Temple, though they spend a lot of time within it's walls, they are not isolated as the two positions above them, and often have homes outside the Temple. They do most of the travelling, the actual obtaining of supplies, the diplomatic work between the Clans, and often also work with the Council of Elders as well. They are usually armoured, due to the nature of their duties, and are somewhat more proficient with a weapon than the others of the Order. Though they are essentially middle-ranking, they hold more responsibility and duties than most others in the Temple, save the Priestesses themselves, simply because their duties tend to be all-encompassing. An Accolayte is still learning, though they are no longer just beginning. They have passed beyond the point of being an Apprentice, yet still require the aid of the Mentors.

Temple     The Apprentices are those that have just begun their learning in the Temple. They have either enrolled themselves, or been enrolled by family members, and their duties consist mainly of learning and the actual maintanence of the Temple and it's grounds. The Mentors are the teachers of the Temple. They are responsible for the education of the Apprentices and Accolaytes, and very often also teach outside the Temple as well. That is their primary duty. They don't often have much involvement with the actual workings of the Temple. They are a unique part of the Order...a part of the Order, yet isolated unto themselves as well.

The Head of Cermonies is just that...they handle any and all ceremonies that take place in the CLan, and tend to work closely with the Priestesses in the Temple. These women, too, are not seen very often outside the Temple grounds, except for these ceremonies. They are responsible for the care of the altar and sanctuary inside the Temple, and the planning and carrying out of ceremonies, be it a death, marriage, the placing of an Elder, or the military Commander, or anything else.
