The bell is a 'simple' brass bell. It is given in friendship and with the thoughts and feelings of those who rode before us.
It's NOT a “gremlin” bell.
Years ago, among “biker folks”, the bell meant a
Here's the “rules”:
It would ring with the 'voices' that rode before us. It was given in honor, to another, that would pass on the tradition of giving a bell in honor.
It is a simple brass bell, which needs to be polished every now and then. So, when you clean your bell, the memories of others are to be cherished.
If you hear it 'tinkle' as your riding, then, you have a 'companion', that is 'saying' something to you. It could be danger, or, it could be a whispering 'Thank You'. "Gut” feelings work here, very well. (I guarantee that you'll 'hear' it, regardless of how loud your pipes are!!).
Once the bell is attached, then, if the bike is sold, the bell must go with the bike. You have to tell the new owner of its significance.
You may take the bell off your bike to give to another. This is an act of friendship and brotherhood. If you do this, then, you cannot request another bell from someone. 'It' will be given back to you, eventually.
You must attach it, where you 'feel' appropriate, for its placement. For others to tell you, then, you won't feel the full effect of the bell.
'The only thing I've adapted for my version is that a 'loved' one, must place the bell on the bike, before the rider relocates it to it's permanent position. This may be accomplished with a piece of string, or, anything appropriate to hang the bell, before its permanent location.
Ride safe…and listen.
