The Sigh

It was a precarious relationship at first,
All are.
He didn't know where it might lead,
Or care.

She was hard to understand at times,
Who isn't ?
Relationships must endure such tests,
Or die.

Theirs endured.

A sigh escaped her lips last night,
As loud as any primordial scream,
Or louder.

He barely heard it.

It spoke eloquently of love,
And need,
At just the right place,
And time.

She's not so tough,
Nor is he.
