How to Lower Your Saddlebags

Some of the members have e-mailed me about how I lowered my saddlebags.. So here goes.

I'm going to post some pictures with this because Pictures are worth a thousand words. I came up with this idea, because I couldn't find any kits on the market that would lower your bags without modifying the frames.

Anyway I thought, that lowering the frames would be easier than modifying the frames of the saddlebags.

Your frames connect to three points on your bike. Two at the top onto the rear fender and one at the passenger foot peg.

So what I did was, I got some 3/8 steel or aluminum 1"x 4" for the two upper points of connection of the saddle bag frames and 2"x4"x 3/8" for the bottom point of connection.

I drilled one hole at the top of each piece, then I drilled three holes at the botton at 1/4 " intervals so that you could raise or lower the frame according to your desire.

I also found out that on the belt side you needed spacers because the frame adapters were hitting the belt guard. The top two needed spacers. the bottom one you can use the passsenger foot peg adapter as a spacer. These spacers are important because without them your frame adapters will hit your belt guard frame in the 2003 and below Roadstar. I believe in the 2004 and above you may not need these spacers.

The exhaust side did not need any spacers. Anyway I posted this because I thought it would be helpful to other R* owners with Bags and thinking of putting on after market exhaust systems. Let me emphasize that this technique will not work on the stock exhaust.

From the looks of it this thing will work on any frame...so I am negotiating with a company to get on the market, wish me luck.
