Feb 1996 to Aug 1996. I was one of the key individuals working for the News Internet Services (A News Corporation Company) under a stay-bonus compensation system, after the massive layoffs which reduced the Internet Platform group from about 50 to 5. The first thing I did was to create in a few days some basic web business infrastructure suitable for the launch of the advertising-revenue-driven WWW.TVGUIDE.COM web site. This included mechanism to track advertising exposures under a rotation system, advertising click throughs, and to generate reports suitable for using inventory management and decisions on return on investment in content and editorial areas. Then I worked out technical details for integrating what had been designed as a subscription based web site with the commercial advertising review/auditing companies. Then worked to deploy the Interse web reporting package, including helping the Interse technical support people with getting the Netscape API's to work with our Netscape API's for session management. I wrote a web-based reliability/uptime monitoring system, web-server stress-producing programs, and worked with the operations group to dramatically improve server performance and reliability, in both content delivery and replication across the server farm.
